Patetico Recordings Releases

Stellarscope- The end is near. I'm Not prepeared.

Buy album here

Philadelphia post punk veterans Stellarscope are a well structured band, with the experience behind them to take on new directions and challenges whilst retaining the core of the output. They craft psychedelia on to tightly constructed rock songs, which take them in to a completely new and unexpected direction.

Their latest album titled 'The end is near, I'm not prepared' is scheduled for release in March 2014. On their new record their focus was to create more sonically charged fast paced postpunk indiepo shoegaze anthems that would appealto a broader audience.

Their music has appeared in many compilations and tribute albums, documentaries as well as on MTV, A&E, Discovery Channel, Alli Sports TV, and more.

For fans of wavves, a place to bury strangers, the jesus and mary chain, skywave, the ramones, manhattan love suicides, etc.

Stellarscope- March of the lonely

Sometimes it surprises me how long I have been reviewing bands and it was back in 2010 I first took a look at Stellarscope.

Stellarscope – March of the lonely cover art

On the 8th October 2013 they revealed their latest release, the 14 track LP March Of The Lonely. Opening with Stay Away From Me there is a recognizable sound, though perhaps more matured as the instruments blend more subtly in to each other. This is a delightful opener and if nothing followed, worth the price of the LP on its own.

Fashionably Late, Again is another fine delivery which finds the band squeezing in the style that Tom Lugo has a penchant for – Shoegaze.

Damn, I Hope Your Happy and you can probably guess by now why this LP is such a treat for me purely for the song titles. This takes a new tangent of exploration and is somewhat space rock in the ears.

Set The World On Fire brings in connectivity from across the globe as the track swims in incantations of tribal dance.

Breaking the pace we find Never Fit In with a more considered pace and the evocations of Stellascope are given space to fill the room prior to sloping into the ears.

Overblown immediately ups the ante and you can feel yourself in the world of Las Vegas. Though why Overblown and Las Vegas should have hit my head in one sentence I am not absolutely convinced was the intention, but for me the pick of the release for its gemstone spark in my head.

Next up is One Terrible Place – a shimmering glide of vocals and percussion.

Status Quo isn’t a pastiche of the iconic British band, rather an interesting switch of emphasis as delay is sliced on vocal and the guitars are left to reverberate in the background and intriguing track for the contrasts.

Hypervolicity Stars is next. A sound of echos, rising and falling. Stellarscope are utilsing this LP to identify the diversity of sounds and for long time fans it makes perfect sense.

It Is Too Late once again ups the ante with rock melodies subsumed behind the gauze that defines the sound of the band.

At just shy of eight minutes Island Universe gives the listener a retrospective of March Of The Lonely, as pace and texture flow across each other like melting silica.

All For You brings forth distortion with little of the accustomed planing as the trio once again gather the audience by the scruff of the neck like kittens to proffer us new experiences ofStellarscope.

Conversely Up In Smoke lands us in familiar territory though it takes time to reorientate to after the previous tracks.

Concluding with the title track March Of The Lonely, Stellarscope has throughout the LP once again set out their wide ranging stall over about fifteen years of ever exploring and they are now very comfortable in asking the audience to come to them, rather than the other way round.

Faunlet- Fauna of the heart of Flora from beyond

COMING SOON!!!!

Romanian dark shoegaze band

This album is I guess not for the faint hearted, or the easily disturbed, as it certainly showcases some very convincing lyrics that gets severely lifted up to the next level with the actual ambiance of the music. It’s an intriguing album that is actually way better than watching a documentary about a psycho killer that chops his lovers up and keeps the pieces in the fridge cause he loves them so much. This record triggers the most darkest parts of imagination, lovers and death, but in an very serious Gothic temperature. - Yeah I know it sucks

Under The Wire- Existential EP

Shoegaze is often tied to dreampop and the music created is soft, smooth and warm. That's exactly how the intro to 'We Are Infinite' sounds, but 'Under The Wire' want to push the sound away from the crowded scene that's build up over recent years, so the vocals are shaper, urgent, almost acerbic even. With 'Existential' it could be that Under The Wire want to keep these wonderfully lush sounds but give them an edge that's often missing from other band's work, and when it is there it's done using overdriven guitars and harsher effects pedals. 'My Death My Ballad' is razor sharp, but in a more complex way. The beats are a mixture of industrial and machine gun electronics; the guitar is caustic but doesn't simply envelop the song in fuzz, there are actual lead-guitar melodies being used. They're not following the crowds, that's for sure. The soaring synths of 'Bloom' are kept hidden in the background whereas other dreampop proponents would have thrust them to the front and allowed the song to soar, but that would be too easy. Instead the lyrics take the lead, and anyone familiar with the styles of music in question will be all too aware that lyrics are often hidden in the middle of the mix and not always decipherable. No such problems here. This is intense and it's clear; that little bit of magical synth just adds to the mysterious wonder.- Sound of Confusion

Drowning Dreams- Dreams while drowning

When stress hits, I just want to lie down and listen to a dreamy kind of music. I am perhaps a bit Gothic so I don’t really go for fluffy and happy sounds with the exception of Cocteau Twins. Drowning Dreams sound like a cool answer to one’s thirst for unique music. The guitars remind me a bit of old Cure, The Smiths and Bauhaus-and yes Cocteau Twins. There’s that jangly feel. But there’s also that laid back effects that tell you this is not a tired 80s dark wave rip off, but rather a style of its own that’s ever evolving. The music of Dream while drowning is a seascape of infinite bliss. - Sphere Magazine

Un.real- Epico

Influenced by shoegaze acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive and The Jesus and Mary Chain, Un.real is the first shoegaze act from Puerto Rico. They had their first show back in 1995 and recently released an EP entitled Epico, which encapsulates some of the essential qualities one would expect from the genre. There are moments that are atmospheric, lush and ethereal as well as times that cover the frequency spectrum with a blanket of white noise and dissonance. While the EP is rooted in shoegaze, it also has influences from post-rock in some songs that build crescendos out of reverb laced guitars that sound as if they were made from the heavens. - The Equal Ground

Psiconautas - Psiconautas (2010)

“From space to earth” is the distinctive phrase adopted by a musical group calling itself “Psiconautas,” which proposes a style that does not limit itself to preconceived and arbitrary genres. With its music, it suggests the expansion of the person’s exterior surroundings and interior space, allowing for the concept of a separate and complete universe within each of us. That is what Psiconautas seek to explore. Its members are Lester Mon and Toño Galaxia, both founding members of the Puerto Rican punk rock scene, and, since 2003, Gadget, another pioneer of electronic music concepts in the country.

Tally Ho!- Please Listen

Max McFly(vox,guitar)
Anthony Cold(vox,bass)
Michael Burn(drums)

The band has been created in 2009 in the southern Russian city of Belgorod. The band couldn’t become formed with it’s membership for a long time, as for the music it was all clear - brit-pop, indie etc. Finally the membership was fixed at the day of their first joint rehearsal with the new drummer. The name Tally Ho! was found in discussions and contests with the help of their friends before the first concert in the same year.
